Feels like I'm being scammed

So more than 2 1/2 years ago, I messaged a particular creator (whose name I shall not mention at this time) to commission an H-Mugen compatible version of one of my favorite MUGEN characters. The conversation started on Twitter/X, but later moved to Discord. I paid the initial one-time fee to said creator to commission the character via PayPal. And with each update, the creator has sent me updated versions of the character without having to pay extra.

However, the creator has since gone even further, by sending me additional characters in my Discord DMs, each time requesting me to pay an additional fee in order to receive them. For example, the creator would say "I have some characters that you would be interested in. Just send me $100, and I'll give them to you." So I sent the creator the money they requested and in return, the creator sends me the characters.

But here's the problem: it feels like I have no control over this. Every time the creator gives me an update, they beg to send them more money so they can give me more characters. Lately, I tried to tell them that I can't pay them any more money because I needed to save what I have left for more important things, and that I'm unemployed and looking for a new job to provide for myself. Unfortunately, every time I say no to the creator, they resort to begging, saying "Please, please, PLEASE... I need your support!!!" even going as far as posting GIFs and emojis showing that they're begging, until I ultimately relent and send them the fee.

So the point I want to say is this: I can't seem to get this creator -- who I commissioned an H-MUGEN version of a character I really liked, for a one-time fee -- off my back, because they keep begging me to pay them for more characters.

Is this normal for creators to do this? Or am I being scammed? I have a feeling that it's actually the latter, but that's my opinion. Any thoughts?

You're caught in a scam that uses pity and secondhand embarrassment to make people say no to pleading. Please stop this cycle.

Without being rude, I'd like to receive a few or many dollars for a GIF or sprite.
