Tips to Beat Laziness & Stay Focused?

Post by Viket »

Hey everyone, gonna be quick.

Lately, I've been dealing with this annoying wave of laziness. I start working on something, and five minutes later, I feel the urge to just lie on my bed and do nothing. It wasn’t always like this, but recently I’ve been getting distracted way too often, and it’s killing my progress on projects.

On top of that, I’ve also developed this bad habit of constantly grabbing references from everywhere. I end up downloading tons of files, but never actually use them and then I lose track of what’s what. Same goes for saving and organizing my project files. Everything ends up being a mess.

The only method that’s worked a little for me recently is creating a dedicated gallery folder just for character files, so I don’t mix up my PSDs with the animation frames I’m porting to MUGEN.

So yeah, I’d love to hear:
How do you stay productive and avoid falling into lazy habits?
And for anyone who also hoards refs or has messy project folders how do you keep your stuff organized without forget? (or do asdhasoidhasoidas.png)

Any tips, methods, or habits you’ve picked up would be super appreciated!

The way I work, when it's a hobby, I'm there in the early morning, waking up at 6 a.m. with the radio on—yes, the radio—tuning in to an economic newscast, followed by a general news program, without being connected to the internet. I suppose this helps me focus.

But I can also be there at other times, but again without being connected to the internet and with the television on, just listening to public television programs, like Rocio's "things about life" program, a series on Imagen Televisión, news from TV Azteca channels, or, in some cases, with the television off and listening to the same MP3s I downloaded in the 2000s and 1990s on Winamp.

That's how I work on hobbies. I suppose I focus this way, because that's how I've done it for more than 25 years using a PC.

But when I'm "with my brain disconnected" then I try to simply outline how I could improve something I'm going to do, something like doing it in my mind to put it on the PC, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't and if not, just let it go and the mood will come and if not, well there is more time than life, there are always things to do at home, so occupy yourself with other things and then return with enthusiasm to the PC, it's worth unplugging from it to get more energy.

Whenever I tend to lose focus I just do a quick exercise and it usually helps me focus after I'm done. I'm not sure if it'll work for anyone else but for me doing a few jumping jacks or pushups refreshes my mind and let's me focus on what I originally lost focus on since I feel accomplished even if it's something small. I guess the feeling of knowing I'm doing something good for my health helps keeps my mind focus.
